Approx. repair cost
$17–89 (est.)
Symptoms
- Check Engine Light Illuminated
- Increased fuel consumption
- Unstable engine operation at idle
- Reduced engine power
- Deterioration in acceleration dynamics
- Possible increase in exhaust toxicity
Causes
- Faulty oxygen sensor (bank 2, sensor 3)
- Broken or damaged sensor heater wiring
- Short circuit in the heater circuit to power
- Corrosion or oxidation of sensor connector contacts
- Engine ECU malfunction
- Poor fuel quality leading to contamination of the sensor
- Sensor heater circuit fuse is damaged
How to Fix
- Read error codes with scanner and record freeze frame data
- Visually inspect the oxygen sensor and its wiring for damage.
- Check the condition of the sensor connector, clean from corrosion if necessary
- Measure the resistance of the sensor heating element (usually 2-14 Ohms)
- Check the supply voltage at the sensor connector with the engine running
- Test the integrity of the wiring from the sensor to the ECU
- If necessary, replace the faulty oxygen sensor
- Clear error codes and test drive to verify troubleshooting
