$17–89 (est.)

Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light Illuminated
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Unstable engine operation at idle
  • Reduced engine power
  • Deterioration in acceleration dynamics
  • Possible increase in exhaust toxicity

Causes

  • Faulty oxygen sensor (bank 2, sensor 3)
  • Broken or damaged sensor heater wiring
  • Short circuit in the heater circuit to power
  • Corrosion or oxidation of sensor connector contacts
  • Engine ECU malfunction
  • Poor fuel quality leading to contamination of the sensor
  • Sensor heater circuit fuse is damaged

How to Fix

  1. Read error codes with scanner and record freeze frame data
  2. Visually inspect the oxygen sensor and its wiring for damage.
  3. Check the condition of the sensor connector, clean from corrosion if necessary
  4. Measure the resistance of the sensor heating element (usually 2-14 Ohms)
  5. Check the supply voltage at the sensor connector with the engine running
  6. Test the integrity of the wiring from the sensor to the ECU
  7. If necessary, replace the faulty oxygen sensor
  8. Clear error codes and test drive to verify troubleshooting
